Have an AMAZING WINTER BREAK!! See you on Jan. 9th 2023! Today we did our third Hot and Cold experiment! We learned about how some animals stay warm with a layer of blubber. Ask me what blubber is!   We did an experiment to see if blubber could keep us warm!

Tomorrow is PJ Day.  Today we got to go to Mrs. Stewart's room to do an experiment about conducting heat. We put butter on a metal spoon, plastic spoon and wooden popsicle stick. The butter on the metal spoon melted first. Ask me why!

Tomorrow is Festive Sweater Day! Thursday is PJ day! This week we are doing three experiments to learn about hot and cold temperatures. Today's experiment was about thermometers. We put some coloured water in two plastic bottles with a see through straw in them. We put one of the bottles in ice cold water and one of the bottles in hot water. We noticed that the water started to go up the straw in the bottle that was in the hot water and that the water stayed the same in the cold water. We know that when reading a thermometer, when the liquid goes up it is warm and when it goes down it is cool.

Today we did some data collecting. We can create a question and give options for answers. We can then survey the class by asking the question and recording responses with tally marks. We know that the data we collect tells us lots of important information. We know collecting data tells us important information such as, what we are asking about, how many people we asked, what the most popular or least popular option is, and how many people liked each option.   We started talking about why collecting data is important and when you might want to collect data and times we have been a part of collecting data at school (i.e. door decorating voting, gym game naming, picking a activity to do, favourite spirit day etc.)

Tomorrow is Festive Sock Day. Wear your favourite holiday socks.  Tomorrow you can pick up your Purdy's Chocolate orders after school until 5pm. This morning we wrote short stories, using sequence pictures of someone playing in the snow as our story writing prompt. We could write about what we see in each picture if we didn't feel ready to write a short story.  This afternoon we started talking about Hot and Cold Temperatures, creating a KWL chart in our visual journals.  We played Santa's Workshop in gym, using our arm, leg and core strength to move the sleighs and then working as a team to collect all the presents.

Today we spent some time finishing up all the different tasks we have been working on this week.  We also finished our cards for the seniors home and wrote a simple message of happiness on the back. This art project was extra special because we know we are doing something kind without the expectation of thanks.

This morning we continued working on our pattern cities. We can create a city that has 3 repeating patterns in it, increasing patterns and decreasing patterns.  Once they are complete we are going to share and explain our creations to the rest of the class. This afternoon we wrapped up our Magnets and Magnetism unit by writing about two things we have learned about magnets and also something we are still curious about.
