Tomorrow is Orange Shirt Day. We encourage you to wear something orange. No school on Friday. Today we continued talking about how students should feel at school and wrote a word to represent that on a leave for the display in the prairie. We also read the story "When We Were Alone." In math we continued practicing skip counting by 1's, 2's and 10's. Check out our work. We did some creative writing, using the sentence starters "I like_______" and "I don't like_____" and our ideas were amazing!! Check some of our writing out:

Thursday we are honouring Orange Shirt Day and encourage you to wear something orange. There is no school on Friday for Truth and Reconciliation Day. Today we read the story "When I Was Eight" and made a visual journal page thinking about what school feels like for us, versus what school felt like for students at Residential Schools.  In math we did "How Many Ways" to get the number 9. Check out some of our work.

This evening the NLS open house is from 5pm- 7pm. I look forward to seeing you there! There is no school for students tomorrow. Have a lovely long weekend. Today marks the 145th Anniversary of Treaty 7. We watched "Fall Walk with Red Plume" which was a video recorded by the Indigenous Learning Team. We then did some writing on what fall looks like (the transition from summer to winter). Ask me what I notice about fall.  We talked about place value in math and represented numbers with base ten blocks. Ask me about 10s and 1s in 2 digit numbers. We also had time to play the Power of Ten games we know.

Tomorrow evening is the NLS Open House from 5pm-7pm. I look forward to seeing you there! Tomorrow is our last day collecting donations for Terry Fox. This morning we did our Terry Fox run. Our class ran a total of 134 laps! We had such great attitudes about our effort! During Math we did a Power of Ten activity: How Many Ways. We thought of as many equations we could create to make the number 12. We used blocks to create addition equations and some of us came up with subtraction and multiplication equations too! This afternoon we enjoyed exploring Maker Space!

The Terry Fox Run is tomorrow morning. Grade 2 will be running at 9:30am. You can still donate online and at school! On Thursday evening NLS is hosting a back to school open house. Please drop in between 5:00pm- 7:00pm to check out the school and your students classroom. I am excited to see you there! Today we read the story "Terry Fox and Me" and then we made a visual journal page thinking about how Terry Fox inspired us. We also made a goal for how many laps we want to run tomorrow during the Terry Fox Run.

The Terry Fox run is on Wednesday. The school is still collecting donations online and in person. Please make sure your student has indoor shoes that are running shoes, appropriate for wearing in the gym.  This morning we started doing literacy centres. We did some word work activities and some independent reading. In math we pulled out our 100's charts and talked about the different ways we can count to 100. We practiced counting by 2's and 10's starting at 0 and then challenged ourselves by seeing if we could count starting at different numbers.  This afternoon we read "The OK Book" and wrote about something we are great at and something else we want to practice doing.
